Desmos was among the protagonists of the workshop “The stability problems of landfills: analysis and interventions”, by AGI and ALIG, in which a case history of expansions of landfills on slopes was presented, in particular the expansion of the landfill of Bossarino in the municipality of Vado Ligure (SV).
The intervention involved the construction of a new waste basin, located above the existing waste body but hydraulically separated from the latter, capable of ensuring a volumetric expansion of approximately 1.120.000 cubic meters. For this purpose, a valley containment embankment in reinforced earth was designed and subsequently built, based on Jet Grouting columns built inside the waste. This intervention, which is currently very rare in Italy, has allowed the expansion, guaranteeing its full geotechnical stability.
